For the first time since the fall of the Berlin Wall, when a litre of petrol cost just 38 pence and Bobby McFerrin sang Don't Worry, Be Happy, it is possible to own a new Alfa Romeo for less than £9,000.
The £2,000 Government and manufacturer contribution under the new scrappage scheme means that owners of cars older than ten years can trade up to a new Alfa MiTo 1.4 16V Turismo for just £8,995.
The last Alfa Romeo to be sold in the UK for under £9,000 was the five door Alfa 33 in 1989!
Twenty years on, Alfa Romeo's head-turning Alfa MiTo range boasts innovative technology and safety features that didn't even exist when the Alfa 33 was launched.
Unlike any other compact car in the sector, every Alfa MiTo features as standard equipment air conditioning, electric power-assisted steering, alarm and immobiliser, electric windows, electrically adjustable door mirrors, LED rear lights, seven airbags, Brake Assist with Hill Holder and a CD sound system with MP3 reader.
On selected models, Alfa Romeo is offering up to £3,000 in addition to the Government's incentive.
Alfa Romeo has announced a PCP finance deal that means eligible motorists can drive away a new Alfa MiTo without any deposit for just £146.50 a month.
The four-year finance deal applies to the Alfa MiTo 1.4 16V Turismo model, worth £10,995.
Appealing to different budgets, Alfa Romeo has developed other finance packages across the entire MiTo line-up.
Brand communications manager at Alfa Romeo UK, Damien Dally, says: "Anyone in the business of cashing in an ageing car can't afford to overlook the new Alfa MiTo.
For less than £150 a month, motorists get the chance to own an eye-catching compact car that is crammed full of technology and features to make any journey a fun and rewarding drive."
With the scrappage scheme, the zero-deposit finance deal requires 47 monthly payments of £146.50 and an optional one-off payment of £4,625.16 at the end of the term.
