THE man behind a major North East housebuilding company is selling up his £2.5m home for a new countryside conversion nearby. Ron Bowey, 59, retired from the housebuilding business three-and-a-half years ago when his company, Bowey Homes, was sold to McInerney Holdings. And now he’s putting his five-bedroom home in Darras Hall, Northumberland, on the market after living there for 17 years.
"We knocked down a two-bedroom 1950s bungalow to build it," said Ron, who lives there with his wife Louise. "And we extended and updated it three years ago." The multi-level property stands within 1.31 acres of gardens leading down to the River Pont. The high specification includes an integrated Bose sound system, vaulted ceilings and picture windows. "One thing we were particularly keen to do was design the house in such a way that all the rooms have good views over the garden," said Ron. There is a dramatic hall measuring 22ft by 16ft with full height windows. Ron says it’s perfect for entertaining. "You can have a large number of people who spill into the other rooms," he says. |
