THIS stunning family home has provided the perfect environment for Michael and Gillian Duncan to raise their three children in. The detached property in Morpeth, Northumberland, offers the best of both worlds with schools and amenities on the doorstep plus a stunning countryside setting.
The couple bought the property 10 years ago after returning to the region from Paris and Brussels where they lived due to Michael’s job with Proctor & Gamble. With large versatile rooms, the house has provided more than enough space for Callum, 15, Emily, 13, and Katy, nine, to spread their wings. Michael said: "We had a very young family when we moved and the house offered the perfect balance. We’re close to the river, but on a hill so there’s no risk of flooding, and the property backs on to woodland which means we’re not overlooked. It is within walking distance of all three schools in Morpeth. It’s close to the local amenities, yet it feels like you are in the heart of the countryside." Built in the 1970s, the house has an "upside down" design and is tucked away on the edge of the estate. The couple refurbished it five years ago, building an extension and adding a new kitchen and bathrooms. "The lounge is on the first floor and the bedrooms are on the lower ground floor. It’s south facing so we get the sun in winter and summer. There’s a large balcony off the lounge which is a great place in which to relax or entertain during the summer," said Michael. |
