WITH 33 alpacas and nine more due by the end of the year, Debbie and Paul Rippon have decided to sell their stunning Northumberland barn conversion and search for a property with more land. Debbie and Paul bought West Barn within the small hamlet of High Angerton at Hartburn three years ago.
They were attracted by its location and the two acres of land that surround it – a necessary pre-requisite for any budding alpaca keeper. The alpacas are bred and raised with the utmost care, and then their fleece is spun, hand-knitted, woven and felted. Debbie and Paul then sell the wool products at farmers’ markets across the region and on their website www.barnacre-alpacas.co.uk. But it wasn’t just the land that was the clincher for the pair. The spacious five-bedroom, four-bathroom property was an equally attractive proposition. Debbie, 37, said: “When we found the property it had been converted, but was still incomplete. There is a huge open-plan kitchen with handmade units that are very nice. The lounge also has an open fire and there is now a converted double garage that is detached with a studio above it.” With a carefully-designed blend of period and contemporary styles, the property is well appointed with underfloor heating throughout the ground floor. |
