THIS breathtaking country house captured the hearts of Semore and Toni Kurdi. And it’s clear to see why. The property boasts a host of luxuries including a games and leisure wing with indoor swimming pool as well as five reception rooms, making it ideal for those looking to entertain.
But for the Kurdis and their two young children the property is simply too spacious. Semore, 40, an arable farmer, explained how they fell in love with the property: “We have lived here for six years. We thought it was a beautiful house in a lovely private setting. We also love Corbridge as it’s a great area. “The property needed quite a bit of work and we did a lot of refurbishment to bring it up to modern standards. It was great as we were able to do to it what we wanted. My wife chose all the decor.” Hampstead House, a mid-19th Century property, has been significantly extended, incorporating adjoining buildings. Semore explained: “The property used to be called Hampstead House Farm, as it used to be a farmhouse. Some of the rooms that are now part of the property used to be outbuildings.” The substantial property includes a guest flat, the games and leisure wing with indoor swimming pool and a garage block wing with planning consent for the creation of a two-bedroom flat above. The adaptable layout functions well as a single house – with five reception rooms, six bedrooms (four en suite), two further bathrooms and three kitchens. But it could be subdivided as a three reception room, five-bedroom (three en suite) house and a separate guest flat. The property extends in total to circa 10,000 sq ft, set within attractive gardens. Semore said: “It has great gardens and a leisure area which has a snooker table and a swimming pool. There is also a sauna and gym. It means you can be entertained by staying in the house and it keeps the children occupied! “The gardens are ideal in the summer for a barbecue. There is also a wooded area that is interesting to walk around and has a lot of wildlife. “I’d say the swimming pool is my favourite room as we do spend a lot of time there.” Semore says the property is ideal for those who entertain regularly. “There are lots of reception areas and a very large kitchen. It’s got a lot of big, spacious rooms. There is also space for parking,” he said. “We have a lot of family who come to stay and we can accommodate a lot of people.” But for the family it’s time to move on from their spacious home. “There’s only four of us and it’s a very big house,” explains Semore. The family would like to stay in Corbridge due to its convenience, close to Hexham and with Newcastle easily accessible “It’s quite private but at the same time it’s just a few minutes to the A69,” says Semore. “It would be nice to see it go to someone who is going to enjoy it. We certainly have lots of good memories here.” Hampstead House, Sandhoe Road, Corbridge, is for sale through Smiths Gore at offers in the region of £1.75m, tel: (01434) 632404. |
