STRETCH out and relax after a hard day’s work in this delightful character cottage.
Situated on Enterpen in the beautiful village of Hutton Rudby, on the edge of the North Yorkshire moors, this is a property that would suit a variety of buyers, says owner Sarah Curry. “It would be ideal for a young family or a retired couple who wanted to downsize,” says Sarah, who lives there with her partner Richard Stevenson and their young son James, who is almost three. The cottage dates from about 1910, and over the past few years every room has been sympathetically renovated, to retain the property’s period charm. For example, it has high ceilings and the original sash windows. Sarah’s favourite room is the lounge, which features a period cast iron working fireplace with slate surround and mantel. “It’s very cosy and it has lots of light. The wooden floorboards are original, and they’ve been buffed and varnished.” Both the lounge and the dining room are a good size. The kitchen includes a range of contemporary beech units, black slate tile flooring and integrated cooker, larder fridge, and separate freezer, as well as two built-in wine racks. Upstairs there are two bedrooms and a recently refitted bathroom, with both bath and shower cubicle and a striking circular heated towel rail. “The bathroom’s fantastic and it’s quite a big size,” adds Sarah. Another useful facility is the loft, which has been boarded and insulated, and has electric light. It offers good storage facilities or could be converted into another room. Outside, the pleasant rear garden includes a paved patio area and wooden decking, with steps leading to the enclosed lawn. A storehouse is attached to the rear of the kitchen. “There’s an eating area and we like to have barbecues out there, plus there’s space for my little boy to play, and it’s very private.” Sarah and Richard have enjoyed living here, but they now need a bigger family home. Yet they love village life in Hutton Rudby so much they’re just moving across the street. One of the top attractions is the village primary school, which is near the house and has been top-ranked by Ofsted inspectors. There are also numerous facilities in the village, such as three pubs, a shop, a butcher’s, events at the village hall, and a tennis club. You can also be out in the Cleveland Hills in minutes, and since Richard is a bike enthusiast, he enjoys off-roading in the countryside. “There’s lots of walks nearby too and we go on cycle rides with the little one. “This house has loads of character and is really sweet, and it’s in a lovely village.” This two-bedroom character property in Hutton Rudby is on the market for £229,995.
