“WHEN I was a child it was always a dream of mine to live on The Grove,” says Christina Turner.
Happily, some wishes come true - and so Christina and her friend Peter Leader have enjoyed more than three years of living in the handsome detached property in this leafy part of Marton, Middlesbrough, near Stewart Park. “I love the area,” says Christina. “You have the A174 nearby, which is convenient, but it’s beautiful here and you don’t feel like you’re living in a town.” She also points out that the house is near Marton railway station, with regular rail services which take just a few minutes to get to Middlesbrough town centre. Christina’s favourite room is the spacious open plan breakfast kitchen, which was once two rooms. Several years ago they opened it up and now it’s a spacious 24ft room, with the kitchen fitted by Teesside firm Court Homemakers. Kitchen features include a twin bowl ceramic Belfast sink unit, central split-level island unit with black granite worktops, and integrated AEG appliances including stainless steel electric oven, microwave and gas hob, plus integrated dishwasher and fridge. Attractive kitchen units include an illuminated glass faced display cabinet and a wine rack. At the other end of the room there is a seating area and a French style door opens out to the rear patio. “It looks out on to the garden and is a very fun area for parties,” says Christina. “In fact I don’t think we’ve had nearly enough parties there!” The main lounge is also a generous 23ft in length, with French doors to the patio, as well as ceiling cornice and a black cast iron living flame stove set in a sandstone fireplace with slate hearth. “It creates a nice open area on the ground floor.” In addition to these rooms, the ground floor also has a cloakroom/wc, a formal dining room with French doors and a utility room. “The rooms could have different uses - the seating area in the kitchen could become a dining area and the dining room could be used as a family room.” Upstairs there are five bedrooms, the master bedroom having an en suite shower room. Bedrooms three and five have built-in double wardrobes, and bedroom five is currently used as a dressing room. To the first floor, there is also a family bathroom with shower unit and double-ended bath Outside, to the front there is an established flower bed, forecourt parking and a double garage. There is a good-sized rear garden laid to lawn, with well-stocked borders and flowerbeds. The full-width natural stone patio offers great space for outdoor living, and to the rear of the garden there is a dog-run and kennels for Christina’s two lively Staffordshire bull terriers. If a buyer didn’t want the kennels, she points out they are built on a concrete base so the area could be used for another purpose. Although Christina and Peter have really enjoyed living in this spacious property, they are making changes in their lives. “We’ll miss the house and the dogs will also be very sad to leave. They think Stewart Park is theirs!” This five-bedroom home on The Grove, Marton, is on the market, reduced by almost £100,000 to £499,999 until the first week in September.
