THERE isn’t a beamed ceiling or Belfast sink in sight at this luxury detached home.
Brook Willow in the village of Mordon near Sedgefield, is an individually designed property for buyers seeking a sleek, contemporary look and advanced entertainment and security technology, says Barry Burak, one of the directors of the small property lettings company which owns the house. Barry says the company been letting the property for some years as an executive home to clients as diverse as a doctor, a company director and a Boro football player. However, after deciding to sell it, the company first carried out a total refurbishment, going for a striking, 21st century look rather than a more traditional style. The dining kitchen/family room is a large and attractive room, featuring a centre island unit with a hob, built-in NEFF double oven, and microwave, dishwasher and Samsung American-style fridge. The work surfaces are granite and there is underfloor heating. “We gutted the house and completely renovated it,” says Barry. “Everything here is new. The floors have just been laid, the kitchen units and bathrooms have never been used.” The entrance hall features solid oak flooring, and off it there is a cloakroom with a white suite. The handsome lounge has wood flooring and a Pioneer plasma television, plus a surround sound system. Double doors lead to the beautiful sun room, which has two sets of French doors and leads onto the patio. There are inset lights and speakers in the ceiling, since a number of the ground floor rooms and the master bedroom are on a multi-room audio and video system, with cables under the floors and behind the walls. “My son is a hi-fi nut and it was his idea to install it,” laughs Barry. Other useful ground floor rooms include a study which could be used as a home office, and a laundry room with door to the integral double garage. Upstairs four bedrooms lead off from the attractive gallery landing. The master bedroom has countryside views and includes an en suite bathroom with bath and shower cubicle. There are three further bedrooms and a family bathroom, also with bath and shower cubicle. In addition, the house has planning permission for a further two bedrooms, one above the garage and the other above the sun room, and Barry has working drawings and builder’s estimates if further expansion is required. The property is set in grounds of about one-fifth of an acre and there are gardens on three sides, including the new patio area, as well as beautiful countryside views to the rear. Brook Willow is approached by a private drive with remote controlled electrical gates. There is only one other house behind the gates, which incorporate a TV/TEL entry system linked to every phone in the house or even to a mobile. Visitors can be viewed from any TV in the house. “It’s tucked away and it’s very private,” he says. Sedgefield is only two miles away and Mordon is about 10 miles from Stockton. Mordon consists of only about 100 houses, but has the advantage of a village hall which has various activities during the year. “A school bus comes through the village and there are primary and secondary schools at Sedgefield, as well as private education at Durham and Yarm. It’s a lovely family home.” Brook Willow, on The Copse, Mordon is on the market for £499,950. Extras such as the hi-fi system, the kitchen appliances and the furniture, are available for a separate additional sum, subject to negotiation.
