BUILDING a bespoke home for your family is a dream for many. Anthony Metcalfe, 44, had always aspired to do just that and five years ago achieved his goal by completing this impressive self-build property.
Set in the coastal village of Seaham, County Durham, the six-bedroomed, three-storey detached property has been the perfect home for Warrant Officer Anthony and his wife Vivienne, 43, a community development officer, as it has a self-contained living area for sons Craig, 17, and Scott, 12. But now Craig has flown the nest to join the Army it’s time for the family to downsize and for Anthony to tackle a new project: “I have done developments in the past but not on that scale. “The house is on the site of an old farm that was divided up into 16 plots and I was lucky enough to get one. “Our home is based on a Georgian design that we modernised to suit our individual requirements. “I self-managed the build and brought in bricklayers, plumbers and electricians who I knew and trusted to do the work. It took about a year to build. It was fantastic to move in as the property was built bespoke and tailored to our needs.” The property has extensive living accommodation including an entrance hall, cloakroom, lounge, kitchen/breakfast room, utility room, family room and conservatory. |
