MOVING home can be a nightmare for some. Luckily for Mike Mortimer, 51, and partner Julie Dobson, 44, they are not planning to move far – just next door in fact.
The couple, who live in Sharpley Hall in the attractive County Durham coastal town of Seaham, with their daughters Rebecca, eight, and Megan, 12, bought the home 10 years ago after their logistics business took off. It was a huge change for the family who were previously living in a smaller terraced property. Now the pair are planning to move up the property ladder again, this time into a property they are hoping to build just over the fence. Mike explained: “We used to drive by the property when it was first up for sale. We thought that it was out of our price range but we were able to get a mortgage. The house looked fabulous, like a dream come true. We had been living in a terraced house in Seaham so it was a massive change for us.” As the house had been rented out to a range of tenants, it had a mismatched interior design scheme. Julie spent her time making sure that the decor was more in keeping with the couple’s taste, including a bespoke carpet with handmade border for the living room and Amtico flooring in the hallway. The pair have also installed a new kitchen and en-suite to the master bedroom. Sharpley Hall now includes a reception hall, lounge room, family room, dining room, utility room and kitchen to the ground floor. The first floor has four bedrooms and a family bathroom. The couple have, however, had planning permission granted for a huge extension to make the property one and a half times bigger than it is now. |
