IF ever there was a property ideal for entertaining, then this one certainly fits the bill.
This fabulous detached property has an open-plan living space to the ground floor, making it perfect for dinner guests. During their 23 years in the house, Janet Walker, 63, a professor of family policy at Newcastle University and her husband, Dr William Walker, 63, who is retired from the pharmaceutical industry, have hosted their fair share of parties. “I suppose it’s unusual in that all the living areas are interlinked,” explains Janet. It is also easy for potential guests to find – being in the heart of Gosforth. Built circa 1950, the property has been extended to create a versatile space ideal for a family. But despite the house being almost six decades old, the interior has always had a modern feel, as Janet explains: “We never had to do a great deal to it. We have modernised the kitchen over the years, but not changed a lot of things. “The new owners wouldn’t need to do anything, they could move straight in – but they may want to make their own mark.” Husband William agreed: “It was originally built in 1955, but it was extended and developed in 1970. It still has a contemporary feel. It is a very light and airy house.” |
