Enter the Brookfield House of happiness

Jan 31 2009

by Karen Wilson, The Journal

AFTER 18 happy years in their luxurious home, Chris and Angie Elliott have decided to down- size and build a smaller home.

They’re ready to make the move as their children Vikky, 30, and Charlotte, 21, have both flown the nest. But they won’t be moving far, as the new property is on Runnymede Road, just minutes from their present home on Middle Drive, Darras Hall, in Northumberland.

“The house is too big for just the two of us now,” said Angie, 53. “The new house is on a much smaller plot and should be ready by July.”

Angie and Chris, 50 who are originally from Gateshead, bought their £1.7m home, Brookfield House, from a builder 18 years ago. “He built it for himself and lived there for seven years,” said Angie. “Over the years we’ve added a new kitchen and bathrooms, redecorated and added a hot tub in the garden. We use it all the time. It’s lovely! You can sit in there and see the stars.”

The house has a large and private plot with extensive gardens and three double garages, which was handy when everyone in the family had a car. The gated property also has a video entry-phone.

Angie says the inside layout makes it a great party house. “We’ve had lots of family gatherings here,” said Angie. “It has a really easy flow to it.”

The ground floor includes a lobby, large central hallway and further inner hallway with cloakroom off. Double French doors from the hall lead to a large, light drawing room with pillared fireplace and mullioned leaded windows to three sides.

There is also a family lounge, snooker/cinema room and family breakfasting kitchen with built-in appliances.

Completing the ground floor are a utility room, shower room and rear cloakroom/boot room.

Upstairs a magnificent galleried landing leads to five bedrooms and three bathrooms – one of which is en suite to the spacious master.

“We love the area,” said Angie. “We have lots of friends in the area and we can just walk to each other’s houses. There are lots of happy memories of this house.”

Brookfield House, 222a Middle Drive, Darras Hall, is for sale through Rook Matthews Sayer at £1.7m. Tel: (01661) 860228.
