ROD Webb and Craig Worcester are preparing to say a fond farewell to their idyllic stone-built home in the heart of the North Pennines, in search of adventure abroad.
The pair, who have lived at Dales Farm in Cowshill for the past two years, have decided to swap the wonderful Weardale countryside for a new life in France. Rod said: “The plan is to go to France for a couple of years and have an adventure. If we don't do it now, we'll always wonder what might have happened.” Located in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Dales Farm offers a tasteful combination of old and new. When they bought the five-bedroomed detached stone farmhouse and almost nine acres of land – which they share with their two horses and three dogs – it was in need of modernisation. “The house did need some love and attention, and bringing up to date,” said Rod. Now extensively refurbished, every room in the house has been redecorated with a sleek, modern style. The farmhouse has hand-crafted maple units and slate flooring in the kitchen and oak flooring in the bedrooms. The house still retains its period charm, with a snug inglenook fireplace in the lounge and deep windowsills. There is also double glazing throughout. Rod and Craig recently added a conservatory to take full advantage of the fantastic views, which first attracted them. Rod said: “The views are absolutely spectacular. We've refurbished the property to a really high standard. It's absolutely stunning and I'm really happy with it.” Dales Farm also has an annexed cottage, ideal as holiday accommodation, or as a more private living space for teenagers or elderly relatives. Set within eight acres of its own land, the property has a large building with stables, providing the perfect base for those with animals. Dales Farm is well positioned, with Hexham and its rail facilities 25 minutes away, and Newcastle accessible in less than an hour's drive. The farmhouse is ideally situated to take advantage of these links, while also benefiting from the community feel of nearby Cowshill. Rod admits to mixed feelings about leaving: “France is a great opportunity, but some days you sit out in the garden and think, What are we doing? because it is so beautiful here. Cowshill is a really nice, traditional community in which to live. People look after each other and look out for each other. “What I'll miss most is when the weather's right and you're standing in the garden looking down the hill – it's just fantastic. I'll miss the view more than anything. If we could pick up the house and move it to France with us we would. We really love it.” Dales Farm, Cowshill, Weardale, is for sale through George F White at £495,000, tel: (01388) 527966. |
